Stress-Free Portrait Photography Experience

Here are my seven steps for helping you enjoy a stress-free family portrait experience so that you’ll actually enjoy the process and love the end result!

1. Start with Your End Goal in Mind - This may sound cheesy, but this really works. If you can start with your end goal in mind, the rest of the process will fall into place much easier. It’s about visualizing these images and where you want them displayed in your home. If you can envision your family portrait on the wall or holding an album of your loved ones, it will come to life.

2. Choose the Right Season for Your Family - I mean this in regard to your family’s schedule and the weather. Try to choose the season that works best for your family’s busy schedules. If you have kids that play fall sports, try to schedule your family portraits in the summer before your weeks get really busy. If you can’t, no worries because the rest of the tips will help no matter when you scheduled your portraits.

3. Finding Wardrobe - Choosing what to wear can become the most stressful part of your portrait process. I highly recommend choosing comfort over trendy styles and going for simple and classic clothes. I have in-depth tips on what to wear for your fall session here. This is why I offer a client wardrobe for you to simply choose your outfit during the planning part of the process. It skips all the hassle and stress and is just the fun part.

4. Hair and Makeup - I highly recommend having your hair and makeup is done on the day of your session. First, it’s a nice way to pamper yourself so that you feel nice and relaxed. It’s also great to feel beautiful and confident before the session. All my mamas receive hair and makeup by my amazing stylists!

5. Easy Image Ordering - Choosing which images to display in your home should be a fun experience! After the session, my clients meet with me for their image reveal and ordering session. We go through each of your images while you choose your favorites to display. After that, I take care of the ordering.

6. Even Easier Installation - Don’t leave your beautiful family portrait artwork in boxes, display them as soon as you can so you can start enjoying them. I hand-deliver and even install my client's portraits for them to make this part of the process even easier.

7. Choose the Right Photographer - I can’t emphasize this one enough—partner with a photographer that you vibe with and love. Make sure you love their work and can envision your family portraits in that style. Most of all, choose one that you know your family will love working with too.
